Organised by the Dorbar Shnong Raid Sawkur Nongkseh and the Nongkseh Sports Social & Cultural Club (NSSCC), the event was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri, Mylliem MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, Adviser to the Chief Minister Hamletson Dohling, Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, and East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner R.M. Kurbah, among others.
Recalling his visit to Nongkseh before the football ground’s construction, the Chief Minister said the transformation reflects the state’s progress and commitment to holistic development. “These facilities are more than sports infrastructure — they are symbols of Meghalaya’s inclusive economic growth,” he stated.

Highlighting a recent Government of India report that ranked Meghalaya as the second-fastest growing state in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) after Tamil Nadu, Sangma reaffirmed the government’s target of achieving an ₹85 lakh crore ($10 billion) economy by 2028. He cited key investments underpinning this growth, including ₹1,900 crore in sports infrastructure, ₹4,500 crore in road connectivity, and ₹2,500 crore in administrative and educational infrastructure.

On the Mushroom Cultivation Project, developed in collaboration with Japan, the Chief Minister said it has the potential to make Meghalaya a leader in mushroom production, creating jobs and export opportunities. He also cited the success of Mawkriah Village’s high-value Oriental Lilium cultivation as an example of rural economic transformation.

Urging residents to take advantage of schemes like “YESS! Meghalaya” and “CM Elevate,” Sangma also announced plans for track-and-field stadiums in every district headquarters, along with convention centres, auditoriums, and indoor sports facilities across the state.
He commended the community’s initiative and reaffirmed the government’s vision of building a prosperous and inclusive Meghalaya.
