“If one brother gets the benefit, if one brother does better, we are all happy”
Shillong, June 30: United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla stated that there is no agreement among the 12 legislators for sharing of the two cabinet berths, and the party can take a call if it feels the need to change ministers from the UDP.
“Since we have no such agreement the party can take a call anytime. We need not wait for two and a half years or we need not take a call even after two and a half years also. The party has the right to take a call anytime they feel it is needed,” Shylla told reporters.

Shylla, who holds the Excise, Revenue & Disaster Management portfolios, said the issue of a cabinet reshuffle was never discussed in the party.
He added, “If it is there also we don’t mind as we all 12 MLAs are like brothers. If one brother gets the benefit, if one brother does better, we are all happy.”
Shylla expressed willingness to step down as minister if told to do so by the party.
“Still if the party feels they need to accommodate someone else’s happily we will give it away. We are like brothers; we don’t fight with each other. We can never become enemies in the family that will never happen in our party.”
On June 24, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had stated that he would consider effecting a cabinet reshuffle when the situation and time arose.
His statement comes amid speculation about potential changes in the state cabinet as the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA-2) government will soon complete its two and a half years in office.
