Security forces recover a massive cache of arms in Manipur Valley districts

Imphal, June 14: In a major breakthrough, security forces recovered a massive cache of automatic weapons and warlike stores during intelligence-based operations carried out in the intervening night of June 13-14 across five valley districts of Manipur.

Joint teams comprising the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Indian Army, and Assam Rifles launched coordinated search operations on the outskirts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts.

According to officials, the joint teams recovered a total of 328 firearms, including 151 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), 65 INSAS rifles, 73 rifles of various other makes, 5 carbine guns and 2 MP-5 submachine guns.

In addition to the weapons, several explosives and other warlike materials were seized.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo said, “These intelligence-based operations mark a major achievement for the Manipur Police and the security forces in their continued efforts to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their properties.”

Senior police officials are reportedly working in close coordination with all security agencies to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner.

The Manipur Police has urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and report any suspicious activity or information related to illegal weapons to the nearest police station.
