Assamese writer Ismail Hussain arrested for objectionable online remarks


Guwahati, May 17: Assam Police on Friday arrested controversial Assamese writer Ismail Hussain for allegedly making objectionable comments against a woman on social media.

A team from Mangaldai police apprehended Hussain from the Garh Ali area of Jorhat following a complaint filed by a female teacher of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mangaldai. The teacher accused Hussain of posting an offensive remark directed at her on Facebook.

“We have arrested Ismail Hussain for his post on Facebook. An investigation is underway. The arrest was made based on the complaint filed by the female teacher,” a police official said.

Hussain, a resident of Guwahati, currently works as an assistant professor at the Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering in Jorhat.

This is not the first time Hussain has been in legal trouble. He previously faced action for allegedly killing a snake and encouraging others to do the same.
