WAVES 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai and said that it is not just an acronym but a real wave of culture, creativity and universal connect.

While addressing the artists, content creators, creative thinkers at the event being held at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre, PM Modi said that the foundation for global ecosystem of talent and creativity have being laid.

“Today, artists, innovators, investors, and policy makers from more than 100 nations have gathered here under one roof. We are laying the foundation for a global ecosystem of talent and creativity. WAVES is such a global platform that belongs to every artist and creator,” he said.

Emphasising on the worldwide popularity of Indian cinema, the Prime Minister said that the Indian cinema has popularised India in every part of the world.

“In the last century, Indian cinema has been successful in making India popular in every part of the world. This is evident from Raj Kapoor’s popularity in Russia, Satyajit Ray’s popularity at Cannes, and RRR’s success at the Oscars,” he said.

PM Modi further highlighted that besides being a country of billion plus population, India has lot more to offer as it is also a land of billion plus stories.

He said, “It is right time for ‘create in India, create for world’ when world is looking for new ways of story-telling.”

WAVES 2025

The four-day event, spanning from May 1 to 4, would gather creative minds from around the globe to discuss and share ideas. The event aims to significantly boost India’s media and entertainment industry, which recorded a revenue of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in 2024.

WAVES 2025 will serve as a major gathering of global storytellers, fostering innovation, creativity, and collaboration in film, series, gaming, and digital entertainment. The event will bring together over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300 companies, 350 startups, and leaders from over 90 countries.

The summit will feature platforms like WAVEx, which connects startups with investors, and CreatoSphere, offering masterclasses and competitions for emerging talent. These initiatives aim to foster innovation and position India as a global hub for content creation.

Who All Are Attending?

WAVES 2025 is set to feature a star-studded guest list, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, and more. Throughout the four-day event, these icons, along with many other influential figures from the entertainment industry, will engage in important discussions on the future of film and digital content.

WAVES is poised to become a leading platform for India’s entertainment industry, pushing boundaries and expanding its global presence. Organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Create in India Challenge, the summit promises to be a groundbreaking event.
